Since buses and taxis are really cheap in Trinidad and Tobago, there is really no need to hitchhike. People will look at you funny if you stick your thumb out, it means you're going a long way and most drivers won't stop because of it. Reach out your arm with your index finger pointing downwards, it's called "to hustle a ride". Don't forget to ask the driver if he is working, in other words if he's a taxi driver before getting into the car, since there are a lot of them driving around. Don't get fooled by taxi drivers in case you do take one, going 2-3 kilometers shouldn't cost you more than 3 TT dollars.
