The Republic of Bashkortostan (Russian: Респу́блика Башкортоста́н; Bashkir: Башҡортостан Республикаһы) or Bashkiria (Башки́рия) is a federal subject of Russia (a republic). It is located between the Volga River and the Ural Mountains. Its capital is Ufa.
There are over 13,000 rivers and 2,700 lakes in the Republic.
Experiences
- Platschi hitchhiked through Bashkortostan in July 2009 and found it extremely difficult to catch rides, incl. 7 hours waiting (2 people, from 7am-2pm) near Ufa. Also police seemed to be pretty weird there.
