Hitchhiking in

  • From Rostov-on-Don Option A: Travel along the federal highway M4 "Don", pass the city of Korenovsk, after which turn left onto highway no. 160. Follow it through Ust-Labinsk and Belorechensk to get to Maykop. Distance from Rostov-on-Don to Korenovsk is 220 km, from Korenovsk to Maykop is 130 km.
  • From Rostov-on-Don Option B: Take the federal highway M4 "Don" to the settlement of Pavlovskaya, where federal highway R217 "Kavkaz" begins. Continue to Armavir, then after the bypass, turn right toward Labinsk. The road leads directly to the capital of Adygea. This route is also convenient coming from Mineralnye Vody or Stavropol. The distance from Rostov-on-Don to Armavir is 300 km, from Armavir to Maykop is 120 km.
  • From Krasnodar via M4 "Don", reach Adygeysk (without entering), then continue toward Ryazanskaya. From there, take the road right to Belorechensk. Then follow highway 160 to Maykop. The distance from Krasnodar to Adygeysk is 30 km, from Adygeysk to Belorechensk is 70 km, from Belorechensk to Maykop is 30 km.
  • From Apsheronsk: If you travel from the Black Sea coast toward Maykop, you will go through the district center Apsheronsk (unless making a detour to Belorechensk). Two main routes to Apsheronsk: from Dzhubga through Goryachy Klyuch and Saratovskaya, or from Tuapse through Khadzhokh. To continue to Maykop, take the southern exit from Apsheronsk, toward Guamka and Mezmay. Landmark – Women's Monastery of the Icon "Unbreakable Wall". Distance from Apsheronsk to Maykop is 45 km.
  • Alternative: from Mezmay to the checkpoint of the Caucasian Biosphere Reserve (in Lago-Naki) and further to Dakhovskaya, or via Temnolesskaya to Dakhovskaya and Kamennomostsky. This road is slow, includes forest roads, and is only suitable for those coming from the Black Sea coast on foot via the famous 30th All-Union route to the Lago-Naki plateau. From there, descend through Partizanskaya Polyana to Guzeripl, and travel on to Maykop. The Guzeripl–Khamyshkhi–Dakhovskaya–Kamennomostsky–Maykop road offers asphalt and spectacular views of Mountain Adygea. Distance from Guzeripl to Maykop is 85 km.
  • Under construction: the road from stanitsa Nizhegorodskaya to Mezmay (as of spring 2016, not finished; last 7-8 km are dirt road). Traveling from Mezmay to Temnolesskaya is possible only with off-road vehicles. Entry to the protected area of the reserve requires permission; the phone/fax for the 24-hour reserve dispatch is +7 918 4901812.
