North Joensuu and East towards
A street called "Puijonkatu" goes through center, follow it towards north. After the bus station, take the right side of the street and cross "Puutarhakatu". Stay on the right side of the road and keep on walking even though there's no side walk. Turn right to a ramp, it is the next exit. Walk a bit forward. I wouldn't recommend you to go all the way to the motorway to hitch hike, while firstly it's not that easy for the cars to stop there because they drive so fast and secondly it's illegal to hh/stop on a motorway. On the ramp the cars don't drive that fast yet and there's enough space for the cars to stop.
It's pretty easy to get a ride at least to the "Joensuu ramp" from here, which is about 10 kilometers away, where you can take road 9 towards Joensuu. There's a bus stop about 300 meters away from the motorway. To go to north, stay on the road 5/E63.
Take a bus that is going to Jyväskylä from the bus station. Ask the driver for the first gas station on the motor way before the bus turns to Jyväskylä. If you are going via Jyväskylä, one of the most beautiful hitch-hiking routes goes via Sysmä, Asikkala and Vääksy to Lahti. Very idyllic!
Take a bus that is going to Jyväskylä from the bus station. Ask the driver for a good gas station.
This direction is very difficult. Behind the bus station on Maljalahdenkatu there is a motorway ramp where you can try (a long time). You can also walk a few kilometers on Niiralankatu to a bus stop
