Krasnodar (Russian: Краснодар) is a city in Russia. It is the capital of Krasnodar Krai. The region is known for its responsive drivers; hitchhikers are often offered rides even by taxi drivers. However, leaving Krasnodar by hitchhiking can be complicated due to lack of road shoulders and barriers. Almost everyone heading to the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus will pass through Krasnodar.

Hitchhiking out

North towards Timashyovsk and Yeysk via R268

• The first major village is Novotitarovskaya. Take a suburban train to st. Titarovka or minibus No. 117, 777 to “Prohonnaya” stop.
• Next village - Staromyshastovskaya. Minibus No. 126 or to station Myshastovka.

West towards Temryuk and Crimea via R251

• Travel almost to the “Krasnaya Ploshchad” shopping center. Before it, there’s a turnoff to Anapa; check with the bus driver and walk about 1 km along the road after the turn to reach a good road for hitching with a wide shoulder.
• Trolleybuses No. 3, 4, 21 to the diagnostic center's ring.
• Bus stop "1st Division of Kuban Training Economy" is the first after the end of the Western Bypass. Accessible by buses No. 138a, 155a, 160a, 166a, 174a, minibuses No. 85, 110a, 114, 130a, 131a, 183a.
• Closed police checkpoint after Yelizavetinskaya village. Bus No. 155a, minibuses 130a, 131a.
• The farthest minibus No. 141a goes from TsKR (Kalinin St.) to Maryanskaya village, the last stop on the highway is “Fakel Gardening.”

North towards Rostov-on-Don via M4

• Get to "OzMall" shopping center on the ring road and hitch from there, or get to the Hippodrome and start hitching as this is already Rostovskoe highway.
• To the police checkpoint at the end of the bypass from the station by bus No. 154A.
• To the Rostovskoe highway, trams No. 2, 5, 8 to "DK ZIP", or trolleybuses No. 2, 9, 10, 13 to "Avrora". Hitch after the roundabout.
• Bus No. 107 goes to Dinskaya village. The farthest stop on the highway is "21st km of the Rostovskoe highway", right after the interchange – you can hitch from there.
• During the holiday season, traffic jams are often observed on the exit from Krasnodar. In this case, it makes sense to take one of five electric trains from "Krasnodar-1" station to Dinskaya village (about 99 RUB), then reach the highway there.

East towards Kropotkin (via Ust-Labinsk) on R251

• Take any transport to “OZ Mall” TPP. At the exit from its parking, a traffic light near the Lukoil gas station sign. Under this sign, a wide shoulder – even a truck can stop here. Minibuses No. 141a, 161a, 189a stop here.
• By minibuses No. 141a, 161a travel two more stops to the traffic police post near Lenin hamlet.
• If the first two options do not suit you, you can take minibus 141a to Starokorsunskaya, 12 km from Krasnodar.
• Electric trains from Krasnodar twice a day to Armavir, and one to Ust-Labinsk. After an hour, beyond Vasyurinskaya, the trains go parallel to the highway.

South towards Tuapse, Sochi, and Abkhazia on M4

• Police post at the start of the Krasnodar reservoir dam. Any city transport to the end of Goryacheklyuchevskaya Street, then walk onto the dam.
• Minibus No. 171 runs along the Eastern bypass towards Adygeysk from the TPP. As you approach the fork, ask the driver to stop before the Lukoil station. Carefully cross the highway into Adygea, then onto the Sochi road. There is a triangle in the median where you can hitch, cars can stop in the acceleration lane.
• On trolleybus 7 to "Khlebzavod," then walk 300 meters back to the ring, then to the city exit, to the old traffic police post. Hitch after the intersection, or continue to the end of the city (about 1 km) and climb onto the bridge to hitch after the GAI post.
• Electric trains to Goryachy Klyuch three times a day. The first stop close to the highway is Molkino. At Goryachy Klyuch, walk beyond the overpass for a slower position. Past Goryachy Klyuch, the autobahn ends, and the position is at the end of the overpass (opposite KFC), in the acceleration lane. After 5 km there’s a narrowed section with a big parking bay.
• At Borodinskaya interchange (near OzMall), you can hitch cars entering M4 from below on the wide shoulder.

Southwest towards Krymsk and Novorossiysk on A146

• To Enem interchange, take any transport to the airport, Enem. The highway runs through many villages – better to find a ride directly to Krymsk to avoid losing time in settlements.
• Convenient to leave from Turgenevsky bridge – right before the bridge is a GAI post and a smooth platform – trolleybuses No. 3, 4, 6, 10, 14 to “South bus station”. Tram No. 3, 6, 7, 21 to “Turgeneva”. No need to walk to Yablonovsky on the other bank.

From the airport onto M4

• City buses at the airport go to the center, not along the highway.
• A significant percentage of cars leaving the airport are now empty. You can try talking to those opening windows at the parking lot barrier.
• To Sochi: from the parking area fence, follow the left side of the road for 15 minutes until the street passes over the highway, steps on the west side go down to a wide shoulder near the gas station and cafe.
• Towards Rostov: Exit the arrivals doors, walk past the trolleybus stop through the square, along the left side of Yevgeny Bershanskaya Street for 10 minutes to the highway. You can hitch at the triangle of Bershanskaya street, but cars in the right lane are preparing to turn in 200 meters, and after that, there is almost no shoulder until Znamenksiy settlement.

Hitchhiking in

In general, transit through the city takes a lot of time and nerves, especially in the summer due to heat and traffic jams. It is better to find a car going directly to your destination to avoid having to change cars within the city.

• Wild camping: In the city center, there is a large abandoned cemetery, where it is possible to camp undisturbed at night. Water from the tap can be collected in the maintained part of the cemetery.
• Along the banks of the Kuban river, there are dense bushes with small clearings. However, during the daytime, it can be visited by unsavory characters.
