A1 (Romania).png

The A1 is a partially built motorway linking Bucureşti, the capital of Romania, with Nădlac, one of the two border crossing points to Hungary, where it melts over in the M43. It passes Piteşti, Sibiu, Orăștie, Deva, Lugoj, Timișoara and Arad. The A1 was the first freeway to be built in Romania, constructed in the 1960s during the communist regime and is constantly upgraded since 2000. Most parts are finished already (2023) and you can hitchhike from service station to service station like in Germany easily, especially if you carry a sign and behave like a lost tourist.
