Since there are so many different directions (and sometimes even many hitchhikers) it's better to make a sign.
There are trains, trams (12,51) and metros to Amstel station from most other stations in Amsterdam. It is a couple of minutes 1 minute walk from there, just behind the FORTIS Bank.

TO GO TO THE EAST, GO TO AMSTEL STATION, THEN GO TO HITCHHIKERSPLACE BEHIND FORTIS BANK (Prins Bernhardplein), MAKE A SHIELD WITH ALMERE (AND AMERSFOORT). ALL PEOPLE WHO GO TO ALMERE (IT WILL BE A LOT), GO ABOUT 2 KM ON THE A1. THERE IS A BP GASSTATION (muiden), THIS IS A GREAT PLACE TO GO HITCHHIKING DIRECTION AMERSFOORT, ENSCHEDE, GERMANY. I DID THIS 50 TIMES NOW BECAUSE MY PARENTS LIVE IN APELDOORN, BETWEEN AMERSFOORT AND GERMANY. I oftenly see people who want to go to Germany with a Amersfoort Shield on it. I do understand this, but it's more difficult.
