Matsumoto is a city in Japan.

Hitchhiking out

North/East towards Nagano, Niigata

At the tourist office you can get a 'Matsumoto Guide Map' which shows a Service Area to the west of the city called Azusagawa S.A. Take the train from Matsumoto Station to Shimauchi Station (two stops), from there it's a pleasant 30 minute walk, which is easy to do with the map. It is an S.A. of decent size.

South towards Nagoya

The map mentioned above also shows another S.A. further north for cars heading south towards Nagoya, but the accessibility of this one is unconfirmed.
