Go to the metro station Ratusz Arsenał and from there take bus 738 towards Os. Victoria or bus 718 towards Czarna Struga. The buses also stop at Dworzec Wileński at the bus stop beside the big clock on the commercial building next to the Carrefour super market. You can also take both buses from Dw. Wilenska (next to the shopping center) on the other side of the river. The ride takes about one hour.
Take Bus 718 and jump out once bus turns left out of highroad. The stop is called "Struga". Walk back to the main road and cross, there should be a bus stop where you can hitch. However, cars may have some difficulty stopping here as it is right behind traffic lights and an intersection, so by the time they see you it can be too late, particularly in traffic. A better option is to continue walking up the road (towards Bialystok) for 15 minutes, you will pass a gas station, keep walking past it for a few minutes and you will find another bus stop, which is ideal. Sometimes there is a lady selling fruit and vegetables by the roadside there, so it's an ideal space for cars to pull over. It's the perfect place to hitch. As a second tip, keep an eye out for the number plates. If the car has a BI number plate (Bialystok), it's likely they're heading there. Make eye contact! If you're heading to Kaunas, look for the Lithuanian plates.
Best option bus 738 can take you further out of the city, once bus turns out of highroad get off at the stop Ceglana and walk back a couple of hundred meters and turn left Stara street . You will get on E67 highroad (see picture). Also there is a small but rather busy petrol station.
