Hey, here are some ideas to make the main page somewhat smaller.

For this version, I directly imported the text of the templates into the site. That can be arranged later, but for now it's easier to add/edit stuff. Only News are not touched. This are my points:

• Header smaller
• Instead of 20+ links at the beginning we should write a small welcome text and lead the new hitchhiker through a sort of first-aid hitchhiking guide. this can be a start page with an good overview of all the different topics he can learn something about. ( Boats, Plane-hitching, safety, etc....)
  • Might also be good for a sort of first aid kit for helping the wiki or something like that.
• The pictures are now next to each other, safes a lot of space down to the wiki. otherwise useres have to scroll down for years, looks not nice. Also looks totally different in each browser ( IE ≠ Firefox ≠ Safari ≠ Opera :-( )
• Rearranged the countries. Deleted some states of the US and Canada. If we add them, then all (or all 5-6 regions like mid-west, east, westcoast, etc.) or nothing. should take care with african countries, there are a lot to come in the future (hopefully).
• Size of text with the general info. Bigger? I like it with 88% - 90% font size.
• Hitchhiking Button as a start of text. maybe also next to the "news" header?

Any other suggestions? Add, edit and play around as much as you want! Let's create the best wiki main page in the world :-)

MrTweeks suggestions

I would not remove the General stuff, because it's important for navigating, neither the hitchhikers-box, because it give people more of a community feeling. I think we should move both of them more to the end of the page.

Maybe we should put the pictures more to the top of the page but smaller), because it makes the page more colorful, more welcoming.
