Hitchhiking out
Southwest towards Bryansk and Kyiv via M3
- From the bus station (there is also a stop on Gagarina street), take a local bus to Tovarkovo or Kondrovo—get off at "Kol'tso" (also called the traffic police post, "16 km") on the Kyiv highway. Walk about 200 meters past the junction, as the shoulder is wider there. Towards Moscow from "Kol'tso" is inconvenient—there is a slope, and merchants occupy the shoulder.
Northeast towards Maloyaroslavets and Moscow via M3
- On the Kyiv highway: Take a commuter train to Tikhonova Pustyn station (about 2 km to the highway by asphalt road—ask locally), or take a diesel train to Okuntsovo stop (200 m, the highway is visible from there). However, there is a better way—using the new Kaluga bypass: take trolleybus or minibus 9 or 95 to the final stop, then either continue 4 km forward to the interchange by foot (asking for rides), or take a cottage bus to Zherelo or Molodezhny, and ask to stop at the first stop near the interchange.
Southeast towards Tula via R132
- At the intersection of Ryleeva and Kiprov streets, look for the “nurses' monument” bus stop, then take a minibus (PAZik) 23 or 27 to Romodanovskie Dvoriki or Nikolskoye and get off at the “ring” near the village of Sekiotovo. Start hitchhiking right after the turn. If heading to Tula, take a local bus to the junction near the New Bridge. From the same bus stop by the nurses' monument, if you're lucky, minibus 28 (rarely) goes to Puchkovo village via New Bridge. Take it to the village turn, then walk 300 m straight along the main road to the Tula highway.
Northeast towards Tarusa and Serpukhov
- On central Kirova street, take bus or minibus 41 to Zhdamirovo village (the last stop), then walk a little further and start hitchhiking.
