The Canary Islands belong to Spain although they are located near the coast of Morocco.
The group of islands results from seismic activity that brought up around 500 volcanoes like Tanganasoga on El Hierro which presumedly erupted from 2011 to 2012.
Islands
From east to west the following islands belong to the Canaries:
- Arrecife on Lanzarote (Monte Corona, CHT nomadbase / hackbase)
- Fuerteventura
- Las Palmas on Gran Canaria (Roque de los Muchachos on volcano Teneguía - last eruption in 1971, Bandama Natural Monument, Caldera de Taburiente National Park)
- Santa Cruz on Tenerife (mount Teide on Pico Viejo)
- San Sebastian on La Gomera
- Los Llanos on Aridane
- Val Verde on El Hierro (the "Meridian Island" with Pico de Malpaso and Laguna de la Restinga)
