Tyrol (Tirol in German) is a federal state of Austria. It consist of the two separate parts North Tyrol (Nordtirol) and East Tyrol (Osttirol). Note that South Tyrol (Südtirol) is part of Italy and thus not part of the Austrian Tyrol. However, there are close cultural and linguistic ties between Tyrol and South Tyrol.
