Hitchhiking in
From Vologda and Saint Petersburg (via A114)
The last 15 km to the city are on fairly bumpy asphalt. Transit traffic passes through the city in many directions, including to Moscow via Bezhetsk. There is a second road into the city shown on maps, but in reality, it's more of a forest dirt road.
Hitchhiking out
North towards Saint Petersburg and Vologda (A114)
Cross to the left bank of the Mologa River and walk to the bend in the highway near the Lukoil gas station. You can start hitchhiking from here.
South towards Sandovo
After crossing the bridge to Sandovo, go straight. It’s not far to the city limits, and you can thumb rides from passing cars. The road has decent asphalt, and even though it has no number, it carries the traffic towards Tver and Moscow. In Danilovskoye (15 km from Ustyuzhna) there is a former estate with museums dedicated to Batyushkov and Kuprin.
East towards Vesyegonsk (R84)
Southwest towards Pestovo (R8)
