Talk:Ruse-Giurgiu border crossing

Under no circumstances should anybody cross this bridge on foot. There is a lot of space to stop cars before they pass over the river. It is very dangerous (small path, too windy, lots of fast traffic, high above river, etc.)

For me, this is nonsense. There is a normal footpath where you can easily walk over the bridge, the view is beautiful, no border guard ever stopped us (July 2008) from walking over there, traffic is not that fast, and yes it's high above the river....it's a bridge, isn't it? It only takes you like 30-40 minutes to walk over from one side to the other. I feel a bit of paranoia in here, do I ? Anyway, more comments on this are welcome :) --Platschi 08:12, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
I agree. I walked over the bridge shortly before dawn in December. I showed my passport to the police on the Romanian side, and they wished me a pleasant walk over to the Bulgarian side. Wind wasn't a problem at all, and the pedestrian walkway is well sheltered from the road cars traverse. CRCulver 12:29, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
But I presume that this warning was added by someone who experienced it to be dangerous and in some circumstances there might be more people who think the same. I'll try to rewrite it into something that everyone can be happy with. guaka 12:36, 20 April 2009 (UTC)
I agree with the current version, thanks guaka ;) as far as i remember i got some pictures from the bridge/border crossing, will search/upload them the next days :) maybe then everyone can look by himself how narrow it is/not is. :D --Platschi 13:42, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Could someone please post the GPS coordinates of this Haji Baba restaurant? There is also a Turkish restaurant less than 500 meters from the Bulgarian side of the border. Often when I've stopped a truck at the roundabout after entering Bulgaria, the driver went straight to that restaurant to eat. I've always had luck with stopping trucks at the roundabout, but perhaps there's also the possibility of walking into that restaurant and asking drivers for a lift to Istanbul.
