old stuff is pretty cool! We should try to create links back and forth from this wiki to there :)

Also, it might be super cool to integrate this with position of possible "instant" couches of CS and HC members. GuakaTalkCS 03:31, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

This is really good. I have been trying yesterday to add some locations with the help of Wiki Mapia (See Barcelona and this location) but one map only with liftershaltes and ratings connected with this wiki, now that would be excellent! Robino 10:31, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes I would be really happy If we could link our pages somehow, but as I said, It's not finished yet. There are some important features missing, so please don't link the page yet. I will let you know when it's time ;) --MrTweek 11:11, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Alright, now all the features neccessary for using it are implemented. You can now set direct links to a location (See Montpellier. In the topline, there is a link named 'link here'. I always points to your view (like in google maps), so you can use it to copy links to the wiki. I also added direct links to this wiki for every country. I hope this is ok. --MrTweek 11:57, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Really cool! I like it a lot!
Right now the link to the Hitchhiking Wiki is opened in a tab of the tiny window. Maybe there's a way to avoid that. GuakaTalkCS 12:49, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Hmm, i guess that's some browser-specific behaviour. Which browser do you use? I use Opera and it opens a new tab in the main window. I'm not sure If I can influence your browser behaviour. ---MrTweek 12:58, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
I think a good idea to add to it would be "Don't hitch here" points, rather than just a point being rated as bad. Maybe an X or something to get the point across, because on a few occassions (Gent is a good example) I thought I had found the obvious hitching spot only to walk down the onramp for 30 minutes and then realizing that there was nowhere to stop and having to go somewhere else after walking all the way back.
That what the rating 'senseless' was intended to. I will also change the icons of the hitchpoints depending on the rating soon. --MrTweek 03:11, 24 November 2006 (CET)
That's a good idea. There's just some places that you walk to for a long time only to realize that it's impossible.
I'm somewhat of a techno retard but... could you somehow put this on a mobile phone with GPS and all? Could you broadcast your position to potential rides?
There is a link "Download as kml". This file contains all points in an xml-format. I managed to load this file into the googlemaps-java-applet (see, but this was very slow and unusable on my mobile. Maybe it's faster for you, just try it.
I made pics of the results:
All you have to do is to enter the kml url ( into the search field in google maps. I don't know if other software can work with this file format, neither wether google maps supports gps.
I would be glad if you tell me about your experiences.
I guess broadcasting your position wouldn't be possible though

Well I can't login anymore to that website? it doesnt take my username and password anymore (which pisses me off royally at the right moment); anyhow then the information description and support should be more described on this wiki and added to the 'project' part as otherwise you have no idea how to access these pages on the wiki! I'm very sorry for breaking it. Unfortunately I was on the road for the weekend, so I couldn't notice. Howver, I fixed it and everything should work again now. --MrTweeksite, wikitalk 21:54, 21 October 2007 (CEST)
Thanks for that, I could now enter all my spot from my last journey in Cornwall Maplefanta 22:48, 21 October 2007 (CEST)

Dead link

During several automated bot runs the following external link was found to be unavailable. Please check if the link is in fact down and fix or remove it in that case!
