Update (as of Dec2019): the camp spot described below has been cleared of bug trees and is pretty exposed now, plus it has been fenced off with a high fence. Although it's still possible to camp there, it is probably easier to find a camp elsewhere. It is possible to wild camp with a tent [https://www.google.de/maps/place/33%C2%B043'09.0%22S+151%C2%B006'33.6%22E/@-33.719177,151.1082477,290m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d-33.719177!4d151.109342 here] (-33.719177, 151.109342), near the hitch spot heading north at the onramp to the Pacific Motorway (M1) (Option 2 heading north from Sydney). Directly across the Pacific Highway from the start of the onramp is a thin nature strip of forest following the Pacific Motorway. [[User:Falcor|Falcor]] has camped here a few times on their way hitching from Melbourne to Mullumbimbi. It is possible to hitch from Melbourne to Sydney in one day, take a train to Wahroonga station, dumpster some bread at the back the [http://trashwiki.org/en/Hornsby_Shire Bakers Delight] in Wahroonga, then camp at this spot, ready to wake up bright and early to hitch north on the M1 first thing in the morning. This way it is possible to hitch Melbourne to Byron/Mullum/Nimbin or even Brisbane in 2 days.
