Hitchhiking out
South towards Saint Petersburg on the A121
- The city extends south from the fortress and over the bridge for quite a distance. You can try hitchhiking right from the fortress—there are many cars going to St. Petersburg, and your chances are good. Alternatively, you can take a bus or a local train to Larionovo (where the road splits left to Motornoye and a little further right to Melnikovo)—almost all vehicles here are heading to St. Petersburg.
Northeast towards Lakhdenpokhya, Sortavala and Petrozavodsk on the A121
- You can start hitchhiking a bit north from the center of the town—you don't need to walk all the way to the end of town. If a car is going to Kuznechnoye (local), you can take it!

Accommodation and Sleep
- For tent camping, it is recommended to get to the next platform "Kapeasalmi" (formerly "148 km") by commuter train or to walk 6 km north along the railway tracks (or go by boat on the Vuoksa River, as it cannot be reached by road)—there you will find "Malye Skaly", a small rocky area popular among climbers and other tourists.
- Overnight stays on the many islands of Vuoksa are also popular among tourists, usually reached by rental boats.
