Paysandú is an Uruguayan city located on the banks of the Uruguay River, which forms the border with Argentina.

Hitchhiking out

Heading south to Colonia / Montevideo

The best place to hitch south is the Axion service station about 7kms from the city centre. Bus 108 to its terminus in the south-eastern suburbs and a 1.6km walk will get you there.

If you have just crossed over the bridge from Argentina, then try to get a lift going to the city – as most of the traffic will be going to somewhere in Paysandú, it should not take long. Then get to the service station from there. You can try to hitchhike to highway 3 (about 5kms away) but the traffic on the highway is going fast and there is mostly only a soft shoulder. The entrance to the highway is also on a curve and so the traffic will also be going fast.
