The State of Mexico or Estado de México (in Spanish; often abbreviated as Edomex) is a Mexican federal state, located in the center of the country. It is not be confused with the country or the city with the same name. In fact, the State of Mexico surrounds Mexico City to the north, east, and west. It also borders the states of Querétaro and Hidalgo to the north, Tlaxcala and Puebla to the east, Morelos and Guerrero to the south, and Michoacán to the west. The State of Mexico is the most populous and most densely populated state of Mexico. Its capital is Toluca.
The ancient city of Teotihuacan with its huge pyramids is located in the State of Mexico.
