Hitchhiking out

North towards Sacramento, San Francisco (I-5 and CA-99) and South towards Los Angeles (I-5)

  • Wheeler Ridge Truck Stop

There is a public bus X92 from Downtown Bakersfield to Tejon Ranch and the truck stop, unfortunately there are just a few a day and only Monday till Friday. Buses leave the Transit Center which is located on the corner of Chester Avenue and 22nd Street at 3.50 am, 5.55 am, 7.55 am, 9.55 am, 12.30 pm, 5.15 pm and 10.30 pm. It takes around one hour and ten minutes to get there. Single ride costs $3. Once at the truck stop you can ask around or hitch at onramps, they have wide shoulders to pull over.

East towards Las Vegas (I-15) and Flagstaff (I-40) also North and South to San Francisco or LA

  • 24 Seven Travel Plaza

From Downtown Transit Center take bus 45 to Foothill and get off at the last stop. From there walk south along Morning Drive till you get to the freeway. There is enough space to pull over at onramp. It's a big truck stop with many diners so it should be possible to hitch a ride in other directions like LA or San Francisco, especially that buses operate more frequently. Monday to Friday there are two buses per hour between 6.25 am and 9.55 pm. On weekends there are also two buses per hour between 6.55 am and 6.25 pm. Single ride costs $1.50.

The exit for the 24 Seven Travel Plaza is closed, you cannot reach the TP or hitchhike from here! (04/22/2019)
