Trempiyada

The good hitchhiking spots in Israel are called trempiyadas. To hitchhike is tremp (from German trampen) and yad means hand. Most trempiyadas are actually bus stops. Often taxis and other forms of paid transport will be confused there and it can be useful to just use your thumb instead of the common Israeli hand gesture.
Especially in and around Jerusalem the trempiyadas can be very busy.
