South towards Rennes

Going out of St Malo can be quite challenging as it is a succesion of endless roundabouts, I suggest standing at the last roundabout, where a branch of the roads goes to the cinema La Nouvelle Vague, there the cars have some sapce to stop. You're not super visible, but at least you're safe. Even if you don't go to Rennes, the best is still to have a sign saying "rennes" or "Direction Rennes". Even if you have to wait a little, you will for sure find a ride, as there are loads of car apssing here and some are for sure going to Rennes or at least in the direction

Other useful info

Beware of the seagulls, don't leave any food unattended or they will steal it. Don't give them food on purpose, because it encourages them to attack people to give them food.
