Hitching Out Hitchhiking out
North towards Budapest
When hitchhiking from Pécs to Budapest, take a local bus, ethe 2 or 2A to Budai Állomás bus stop. Although the road 6org/wiki/E73 goes straight through PécsM60-as_aut%C3%B3p%C3%A1lya_(Magyarorsz%C3%A1g) M60 motorway, you simply won't get a ride inside the city. At Budai Állomás there it is a crossroad with a traffic lightjust finished and local hitch-hikers use it frequently. Cross, walk towards Take the direction of Budapest, downhill. Start hitching when you passed bus 41 until the petrol stationlast stop /Reménypuszta/, and you are at there's the other side of the valley, under the bus stop sign58th road. That is where Follow it for 500 meters and you are 'll find the most visibletoll to Budapest.
Another possibility to go on main road 6th, until Szekszárd, there you can take the M6 as well. The M60 motorway reason to take the main road rather then the highway directly from Pécs: the highway is already finished and local hitch-hikers use it frequentlya big detour compared to the road 6. Take The road 6 goes across the Mecsek (a hill north of the town), the M60 starts from the bus 41 until south of the last stop /Reménypuszta/town, there's bypasses the 58th road. Follow Mecsek, it for 500 meters is about 40 km longer between Pécs and you'll find the toll to BudapestSzekszárd.
=== South towards Croatia (Osijek) and Bosnia (Sarajevo) (57 and E73/7) ===When hitchiking Probably there is bigger chance to get a long distance lift from Pécs to Sarajevo take the M60, but many local bus 20 or 20A to students prefer the last stop6th road. Walk To get to the main road6th, which you have to take the bus 2 until /Budai Vám/ there is the 57 and hitch south in direction of Mohacsa large Tesco, you cant miss it. Eventually you'll hit a roundabout where Actually, you can either go straight into , because there are 2 large Tescos in Pécs, and the other one is on the city opposite side of Mohacs or right towards Udvar the town - watch out when asking! If you are at the border crossing from Hungary into Bosnia. Head Tesco at "Budai vám", you have to walk towards Udvarabout 500 m, there will be a slight slope, this at the bottom there is not the road E73/7. Rides are a bit sparse here petrol station (just for toilet, water, or what ever you need), and most heading that direction are actually heading into a back road of Mohacsbus stop, not where drivers can stop to Udvarpick you up. So if your ride drops If you off herewalk about hundred meters more, you'll have are just out of town, which is also a more select audience if you walk a bit until you cross a bridge and pass the small road very good place to Mohács on the left. Once you reach the border crossing, there's quite a few trucks there you can catch hitch a ride with. (June 2008)
== Public Transport ==Maybe the bus stop is better, because you get in the drivers sight early, when they are the top of the slope, and they watching you until they reach the bottom. Plenty of time to decide!
Local South towards Osijek, Sarajevo (57 73 7)
Pécs has Take local bus 20 or 20A (in front of the big shopping mall Arkad) to the last stop. Walk to the main road, which is the 57 and hitch south in the direction of Mohacs. Eventually you'll hit a reasonable public transportation system consisting roundabout where you can either go straight into the city of 50 Mohacs or so bus linesright towards the Dubosevica-Udvar border crossing with Croatia. Head towards Udvar, this is not the road E73/7. Rides are a bit sparse here and most heading that direction are actually heading into a back road of Mohacs, not to Udvar. So if your ride drops you off here, you'll have a more select audience if you walk a bit until you cross a bridge and pass the small road to Mohács on the left.
Buses 2 and 2A go from one end of the city to another on the road 6/E73, so they are your best chances hitching either into or out of the town. Please note that when going eastwards, the bus no. 2 leaves 6/E73 after the stop Budai Állomás. A bus ticket costs 220 HUF (somewhat less than €1) or 300 HUF (roughly €1) when bought on the bus from the conductor. Tickets are sold at newspaper kiosks and also at smaller groceries. Conductors are also responsible for checking the existance of your ticket when getting on, so it's virtually impossible to travel without one. If you want to spend a longer time in the town you may also consider buying a day ("napijegy" - 950 HUF, rougly €3) or a weekly ("hetijegy" - 2900 HUF, roughly €10) ticket.== Trashwiki & Nomadwiki ==
If you want to go up the hill take one of the buses 34, 35 or 35A. The final station of the bus no. 35 is the TV broadcasting tower on Misinatető. The southern part of the town (mainly consiting of blocks of flats - not much to see for the average traveller) also has a bus terminal. Take lines 3, 6 and 7 from the railway station to get there.nomad:Pécs trash:Pécs
