Mendoza is a city in Central Argentina. It is the capital of the district with the same name.
Hitchhiking out
If you're heading west towards Chile, consider taking a bus to Puente del Inca, about 4 hours away. It's a bargain at only 20 pesos. From there you can hitch a ride to the other side of the border pretty easily. There are no border formalities to be done on the Argentinian side. You'll get your Argentinian exit stamp on the Chilean side of the border.
