It is a member state of the [[European Union]] as well as the [[Schengen Agreement]]. It is very densely populated, and there is very little distance between centres. Hitching is very easy though, often you don't even have to leave town. Gozo Island especially is very easy to hitch around. Everyone knows English, and many can communicate in Italian and Arabic. == Luqa Airport == If you fly to Malta with!RyanAir, don't get duped into buying the city transfer from the airport (8E). They try to sell them at the departure airport, so that you don't know how close it actually is (just 9km). Firstly, hitching from the airport is easy enough. Just wait by the exit. Alternatively, take the retro local bus to Valleta (0.47E), which also leaves from the airport. == Public Transport == Public transport is very cheap, but can take quite a long time, especially during rush hour.
