Hitching OutHitchhiking out
South towards Cork, etc
====* Option 1====
Go to the Roxboro roundabout on the South side of the city. This can be reached by the number 303 bus from Limerick City Centre (on William Street) for around 1.50 Euro. Get off the bus near the motorway exit. You walk up here for 10 minutes until you reach a roundabout. Here, you go straight down, following the signs for Cork, and stand on the side of the motorway behind some yellow lines. This is just after the bridge. We waited for 5 minutes with a sign at this spot and got a lift to Cork city.
====* Option 2====
Go to the Raheen roundabout on the South side of the city. This can be reached by the number 304/304 A bus from Limerick City Centre (Outside the Brown Thomas department Store) for around 1.50 Euro. From the last stop, you walk up the motorway for 5 minutes until you reach a second roundabout. Here, you turn left and stand on the side of the motorway behind some yellow lines. We waited for 5 minutes with a sign at this spot and got a lift to Cork city.
I have hitched from this spot twice. The first time I was picked up and brought all the way to Cork. The second time I was moved on by the Guards. They didn't give me much hassle, just said that it is illegal and dangerous to hitch on motorways. It might be worth noting if you plan to hitch from here. Another less direct option if you don't want to hitch on the motorway is to go to the regional hospital (Bus 301 or 304 from bus/train station) and hitch from the bus stop just after it to Patricks Well, the driver dropped me at a spot where the traffic for Cork comes off the motorway onto the Cork road and I got a lift in minutes. ===East Northeast towards Portlaoise, Dublin, etc===
Go to the Annacotty/Dublin Road roundabout on the East side of the city.
This can be reached by the number 308 bus from Limerick City Centre (Outside the Peter Mark hairdressers on William Street) for around 1.50 Euro. From the 'Kilmurray Hotel' stop, you walk up the motorway for 20 minutes until you reach the second roundabout after the Finnegan's bar (this is located on the right side of the road as you walk up)or you can call to the nearby petrol station to ask somebody for a lift to there or beyond. HereWhen you arrive at Finnegan's bar, you turn left continue walking and find a spot to stand on the side of the motorway behind some yellow lines. We waited for 2 minutes with a sign at this spot and got a lift to Dublin city. It is defintely the best place to go to even though the walk is relatively long.
North Northwest towards Galway, etcand Ennis
Get the 302 bus to Caherdavin. Turn right and walk down the road to the Fern Dale roundabout. There is space on the cycle lane near the Ferndale round about for cars. It is also good to go the petrol station nearby and ask people there for a lift.
You But a lot of traffic just stop in the petrol station or in the shops around. If you cant get a lift from the Fern Dale roundabout, you can also walk across the bridge beside Jury's hotel and about two 5 minutes further on until you get the next roundabout. After that one the road goes directly to the hard shoulderN18 road (to Ennis, Shannon and Galway). This There is only a short walk out plenty of the city centrespace after this roundabout. I have never waited more than ten or fifteen We got a lift to Ennis in 5 minutes there. The road that crosses the bridge is called Condell Road and is the N18with a sign.
You can also walk across the bridge beside Jury's hotel and about two minutes further on until you get to the traffic lights. This is only a short walk out of the city centre. The road that crosses the bridge is called Condell Road and is the N18. ===West towards Foynes, etc===
The hitch hiking spot is on the main road after Post Depot on the Dock road. This is not far from Limerick city bus and rail station.
North towards Ardnacrusha, etc
Get 301/301 A bus to Westbury, Corbally. The stop is alongside the road just before the bridge to County Clare.
===East Southeast towards Tipperary Town, etcWaterford === Get the 308 bus to the Singland roundabout, Dublin road. Walk on the foothpath in the direcion direction of Waterford and you will come to the Ballysimon roundabout. The HH stop is on the side of the motorway.   == Trashwiki & Nomadwiki == trash:Limerick nomad:Limerick   Ireland__NOTOC__
