Belgorod (Russian: Белгород) is a city in Russia, located in the south of the country on the border with Ukraine. It is the administrative center of Belgorod Oblast.

Hitchhiking in
Most often, travelers arrive in the city in transit to Kharkiv. Previously, many would take a bus from Belgorod station to Kharkiv or an elektrichka (commuter train) to Kazachya Lopan to cross the border without queues and buy tickets for cheap Ukrainian trains in Kharkiv. Currently, elektrichkas to the south go only as far as the Naumovka station. There is also still one elektrichka to Nizhegol, one to Gotnya, and five per day towards Kursk. The "Crimea" highway bypasses Belgorod far to the west and is unpopular among drivers. Many prefer to drive through the city using the old bypass (K28). Only trucks used to go via the M2, but now there are very few.
Hitchhiking out
Southwest towards Kharkiv via Template:M
The outgoing traffic police post is in the settlement of Maisky. The nearest bus stop is "School", about 400 meters from the post, right after the Kharkiv interchange. Buses No. 102, 151, and minibuses 102A, 102G, 109U, and 129 go here. If you don't want to hitchhike near the police post in a populated area, you can take the farthest of these, 109U, which goes another 13 km all the way to Oktyabrsky settlement, leaving only 12 km to the border.
Four times a day, there is a bus No. 102-N to the "Nekhoteyevka" border checkpoint. Pedestrians are allowed to cross the border; on the other side, there is a stop for Kharkiv buses and minibuses.
North towards Kursk via Template:M
The traffic police post is located past the bypass road, at the turn to Ternovka. The best is to take a bus to Ternovka itself and hitchhike from there. Buses 127 and 128S only go as far as Shopino, and from there it's over 3 km to the M2 interchange.
Northeast towards Novy Oskol and Rossosh via Template:R
The farthest option is minibus 104 to Novosadovy settlement, and its variants, specifically 104d to Melikhovo/Dalnyaya Igumenka village. The latter departs from the train station according to the schedule, on average every hour and a half, with the last trip around 7 p.m. The schedule is posted in the bus. The fare to the turn to Dalnyaya Igumenka (+7 km from Novosadovy) is 30 rubles as of November 2015.
Southeast towards Shebekino
In Razumnoe settlement, there is a bus stop called "Traffic Police Post". Buses No. 123, 232A, 3N, and minibuses 103 and 129 go here. (Bus 129 comes from Maisky, which is on the M2 entry from the Kharkiv side.) The furthest along the highway is bus 123 to Krutoy Log.
