Nazran (Russian: Назрань) is the largest city in the region of Ingushetia in Russia. The city is located on the left bank of the Sunzha River, in the western part of the republic, near the administrative border with North Ossetia. It is 4 km northwest of the capital of the republic, Magas. According to the 2020 census, Ingush people make up 98% of Nazran's population.

Hitchhiking out

West towards Beslan, Nalchik, Mineralnye Vody and Stavropol

The most convenient position is the checkpoint at the Chermensky roundabout, described below.
Slightly closer to Nazran on the highway, there used to be the Nazran DPS post. You can get there by buses 101, 123, 115, 107, 116, 129, 308, 444, 501, 516, 536, 565. The post itself is gone, but there is now a bus stop pocket at this place.
If you need to go towards Nalchik and Moscow, you can agree to local cars going to the airport. It is located right on the Beslan bypass.

South towards the new capital Magas

The roundabout under the R217 overpass a bit east of the bus station. After the roundabout, there is a barrier, but at the exit of the circle there is a paved triangle with a lone streetlight.

East towards Grozny and Makhachkala

At the Magas interchange, there is no position on the highway – barrier plus noise-protection wall. A bit further there is a turn to the children's hospital. You can get there by minibus #7. Hitchhike on the small triangle at the turn. Right after the exit – again a barrier and a no-stopping sign.
The next break in the barrier is the turn to the "Stroymarket." Get there also by minibus #7. Inside the Stroymarket, there is a cafeteria (Mon–Fri 10:00–20:00). The triangle at the turn is larger than at the hospital turn.

Next position is the intersection with a traffic light near the car market. Here, the "Kavkaz" highway narrows to two lanes (as of 2024), after the light there's a wide shoulder. This is considered a more convenient hitchhiking position than the previous three. Also, local traffic joins the main flow towards Dagestan here. Same minibus #7 to get here. There might be other buses along Didigova street, but they are not shown on Yandex or 2GIS.
A bit further east on the highway – Ekazhevsky roundabout. Buses 106, 109, 144, 505, 506, and 511 go there. Above the roundabout, an overpass is under construction. Go to the end of the overpass for a convenient pocket near the ambulance station.
After the overpass is opened, the position will shift to Toldieva Street. Barrier break, small triangle and acceleration lane.
Turn with decorative Ingush towers. Stop "Salman Oziev Street," buses 103, 144, 308, 444, 501, 505, 506, 511, 565, and others. Near the towers, there is a large paved triangle, and after the pedestrian bridge is the bus stop.
Last city bus stop on the highway – "Agricultural College." Routes 103, 144, 308, 444, 501, 505, 506, 511, 565. There is a wide shoulder without barriers across from the college. No streetlights.
Bus 103, after crossing the Sunzha River, turns right and goes parallel to the highway to the village of Gazi-Yurt. From its final stop on Ugurchiyev street, walk 500 m to the 576th km of the highway. After the pedestrian bridge, there is a pocket for stopping. No streetlights.

Towards Vladikavkaz and Georgia (R217 "Kavkaz" highway)

Bus 116 from the bus station goes to Chermen. You should get off at "Kooperativnaya Street" stop before the Chermen roundabout. At this roundabout, there is a 24-hour police post (DPS). Police in body armor and helmets check all out-of-town vehicles. There are convenient pockets in all three directions for stopping and inspecting vehicles. Stand at the end of these areas to hitchhike.
