Hitchhiking out
East towards Votkinsk and Perm via Votkinsk Highway
Option 1 - Votkinsk Highway
Take bus №16 to the stop Povorot Na Smirnovo. You can also get there by minibus №68. There is a good hitchhiking spot right after the traffic lights at the intersection.
South towards Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, and Uva via M7 =
Option 1 - Ulitsa Furmanova
From the city center (starting stop at Alexander Nevsky Cathedral) take bus №11 to the final stop "Ulitsa Furmanova". A couple of hundred meters past the stop, you will find the exit sign for "Izhevsk". Hitchhiking is not very convenient here because the settlement of Pirogovo starts immediately after Izhevsk. It's better to walk 2 km from the stop to the fork of Mozhginsky (road to Kazan) and Nylginsky (road to Kirov) tracks. There is a supermarket "Pyaterochka" near this fork.
Option 2 - Transselkhoztekhnika
By bus №21 or minibus №49 to the final stop "Transselkhoztekhnika". Walk 1.5 km along Gagarina and Azina streets (Pirogovo) to the fork of Mozhginsky and Nylginsky tracks.
Option 3 - Platform 31 km
From the railway station, take an electric train towards Vyatskiye Polyany, Kizner, or Krasnoufimsk to the "31 km" platform, located on Poima street within the city. From here, you can access the above-mentioned fork. (Note: commuter trains with diesel traction towards Naberezhnye Chelny and Saigatka do not stop at this platform.)
Option 4 - Platform 27 km
You can also reach the highway by taking an electric train from the railway station. The "27 km" platform is located directly near the Mozhginsky track interchange with the ring road.
Southeast towards Sarapul via R322
Option 1 - Povorot na Medvedevo
From the city center (starting stop at Gorky-Lenin intersection, southwest): bus №2 to the stop Povorot na Medvedevo.
Option 2 - Ochistnye Sooruzheniya
Take bus №41 to the stop "Ochistnye sooruzheniya". You will need to walk several hundred meters along the road, as the area near this stop is not very good for hitchhiking.
Option 3 - Povorot na Lyulli
Bus №6 to "Povorot na Lyulli" (runs rarely; starting stop at Nevsky Cathedral).
North towards Igra and Glazov via R321
Option 1 - IzhGTU
Buses №29, 36, 79, minibus №18, trolleybuses №6, 9 to the stop "IzhGTU". Walk about 1 km along Studencheskaya street to bus 56 stop "Dom Prirody" (Yakshur-Bodinsky Trakt, also called M-7). Stand for rides after the descent past the street junction.
Option 2 - Povrot na Igerman
From Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, take bus №56 to "14 km" stop (this place is called "Povorot na Igerman").
Option 3 - 16th km Yakshur-Bodinsky Trakt
From the stop "Severny Mikroraion" take bus №356 to the 16th km of Yakshur-Bodinsky Trakt (M-7).
