Tavira is a city in Portugal.
Hitchhiking out
West towards Faro, Lagos
This way also leads to the main highway going north to Lisbon and Porto.
There's the highway A22, and the coastal road N125. We tried direction A22 in every fashion (several hours on several spots within several kilometers) without luck. Take the N125, there's a gas station just out of town, see the marker. From there you can get basically anywhere in Portugal.

Places to Visit
Tavira has a nice island - Ilha de Tavira - with beautiful waves, and mosquitos. The cheap ferry goes regularly from the coast. It's quite a walk from the city center of Tavira to the coast, but it's easy go get a lift - at least on your way back.
