Aksay (Russian: Аксай) is a satellite city of Rostov-on-Don.

There is a railway station of the North Caucasus Railway in the city, and this station can be used as a departure point from the Rostov metropolitan area to the "Don" highway, which here consists of several toll and free motorways with their own specific features for hitchhiking. (There are also minibuses and buses running to Aksay until late at night.)

Hitchhiking out

South towards Krasnodar via the free M4 motorway

• It makes sense to get off at the "Steklozavod" railway station and from there hitchhike along Gulaeva street to the interchange with the M4. Slightly south of this interchange there is a traffic police post before the bridge over the river. Several buses along this street go to the left bank of the Don and can take you to the turn towards the Rostov port. However, the spot there is worse than at the police post.
• A Metro hypermarket has opened behind the traffic police post before the Aksay bridge. Are there any buses or minibuses to it?

South towards Krasnodar via the toll bypass of Rostov-on-Don

• Take the train three stops past "Aksay" station (towards Novocherkassk) to the "1993 km" stop. From there it's only 1.5 km on foot to the interchange at Bolshoy Log stanitsa.
• Buses 152a, 236, 512, 515, and minibuses 111 and 223 also go to Bolshoy Log stanitsa.

North towards Voronezh and Moscow via M4

• Between the Novocherkassk interchange and Bolshoy Log on the toll highway, there is a toll collection point 1046. It can be considered a key spot for hitchhiking both to Krasnodar and Moscow. Find out how to reach it and update this description!

North towards Novocherkassk and Shakhty via Novocherkassk highway

• From the "Steklozavod" platform, walk or hitchhike to the traffic police post near the Aksay bridge.
• Buses 124, 133, 155v, 156, 232, 236, 240, 511, 512, and minibuses 2, 128a, 223, 240 go to the "Aksaysky turn" bus stop opposite the MEGA shopping center. Here, the flows from Aksay and Rostov merge in the direction of Novocherkassk. Disadvantages of this spot: often, many locals ("seals") are hitchhiking and there is a large flow of taxiing cars.
