North towards Lisbon/Porto and East towards Faro and Spain

From the main avenue, head east towards the main bus station. Walk past the bus station and turn right at the roundabout. Keep following this road and you should end up on the N125, which leads to the A22. If you continue on this road, there are a few good hitching spots, otherwise you can walk about 1 - 2 kilometres farther and you will reach a petrol station.Another point to start your walk to the petrol station could be the harbour, with a supermarket north of it right beside the N125.
Sputz tried hitching here in various spots for one hour and managed to obtain a ride from the petrol station all the way to Faro. In summer 2019 Fáinleog managed to hitch from the N125 to Faro/Algarve Airport after missing his bus. He was picked up and dropped off three times. The third driver picked Fáinleog up on the A22 and said he was lucky because not many stop on this major road. Fáinleog made his flight.
This also is the best route to go north, towards Lisbon and even Porto.
Hitchhiking from Setubal (one hour by train from Lisboa) to Villa d'Obispo is easy in the summer time, just follow the coastal roads (N261, N120, N268). People stop easily, because there are no bus lines, so they often take local hitchhikers and also because there are a lot of surfers who readily pick up hitchhikers, too. Expect to divide your itinerary into a number of shorter rides, because drivers aren't usually going very far.
