Probably there is bigger chance to get a long distance lift from the M60, but many local students prefer the 6th road.
To get to road 6th, you have to take the bus 2 until /Budai Vám/ there is a large tescoTesco, you cant miss it. Actually, you can, becouse because there are 2 large tescos Tescos in Pécs, and the other one is on the opposite side of the town - watch out when asking! If you are at the tesco Tesco at "Budai vám", you have to walk towards about 500 m, there will be a slight slope, at the bottom there is a gas petrol station (just for toilet, water, or what ever you need), and a bus stop, where drivers can stop to pick you up.If you walk about hundred meters more, you are just out of town, which is also a very good place to hich hitch a ride.
Maybe the bus stop is better, becouse because you get in the drivers sight early, when they are the top of the slope, and they watching you until they reach the bottom. Plenty of time to decide!

Pécs has a reasonable public transportation system consisting of 50 or so bus lines.
Buses 2 and 2A go from one end of the city to another on the road 6/E73, so they are your best chances hitching either into or out of the town. Please note that when going eastwards, the bus no. 2 leaves 6/E73 after the stop ''Budai Állomás''. A bus ticket costs 220 HUF (somewhat less than €1EUR 1) or 300 HUF (roughly €1EUR 1) when bought on the bus from the conductor. Tickets are sold at newspaper kiosks and also at smaller groceries. Conductors are also responsible for checking the existance of your ticket when getting on, so it's virtually impossible to travel without one. If you want to spend a longer time in the town you may also consider buying a day (''"napijegy"'' - 950 HUF, rougly €3EUR 3) or a weekly (''"hetijegy"'' - 2900 HUF, roughly €10EUR 10) ticket.
If you want to go up the hill take one of the buses 34, 35 or 35A. The final station of the bus no. 35 is the TV broadcasting tower on ''Misinatető''.
The southern part of the town (mainly consiting consisting of blocks of flats - not much to see for the average traveller) also has a bus terminal. Take lines 3, 6 and 7 from the railway station to get there.
