Near the long distance bus station, is a McDonalds, which the locals also use. it can get pretty crowded here. To get to Alba or Cluj you have to go through Sebes, it is good to try find a lift here first, try using a sign.
I tried using the other spot listed above going on E68 but after two hours in the rain with no luck I had to give up for the day. There's too many cars and it's not good to pull over. The McDonald's mentioned on this page in another entry is not there anymore. Furthermore, the highway ramp with a roundabout between Sibiu and Ocna Sibiulei is a terrible and dangerous place to stand as you have to stand directly on the road, and virtually no cars go towards Deva from here. I waited an hour here in the rain and ended up having to pay a taxi to Sibiu.
To go to Cluj Napoca follow the above guide and ask to be dropped off at the highway when the E81 goes under A1. It's the northern exit of Sebes, just south of the village Lancram. The roundabout is a good spot.
