Liège (Dutch: Luik; German: Lüttich) is a city in the French speaking part of Belgium.
Heading North or East towards Maastricht (A25) 25, Aachen (A3) 42
Bus 17 from the bus station at Liege-Guillemins, or bus 18 from Leopold, until busstop Nancy. Then walk north through Avenue de Nancy and you will arrive at the A25-access lane on the corner Avenue de Nancy / Avenue Georges Truffaut. Or bus 76 from Leopold until busstop Intermosane, then cross the bridge (Pont de l'Atlas) and walk west along Avenue Georges Truffaut to the motorway access lane.
Best to use a sign Maastr.Maastricht or NL. If you go towards Aachen and Köln, best is to use a sign with "Barchon" , where is the first petrol station(which you could also reach by bus, see below).

There are some fairly average on-ramps to the E25/A602 within walking distance of the city centre. Tom tried the on-ramp on Rue St. Laurent, which worked fine for him. The on-ramp on Jardin Jean-Bernard Lejeune (west of the tunnel, ignore the "no pedestrian" sign) is a good place, but use a fairly big and well prepared sign, because the cars are passing rather fast.
If needed, ask the driver to take you to the first service station on the road you are taking:
*On the E40/A3 to Brussels, the first service station is "aire de Bettincourt Noord", north of Waremme, about 25km from Liège.*On the E42/A15 to Charleroi, the first service station is "Verlaine Nord", north-east of Huy, about 20km from Liège. == Resources == === Occupied Social Centers === The CSOA Passe-partout, an "occupied social centre" (or squat) in the city centre, proposes several activities such as :* A vegetarian/vegan dinner every Friday* A bicycle workshop every Wednesday (2pm to 6pm)* A second-hand clothes shop every Tuesday (11am to 3pm) The Pigeon communal proposes :* A bar and vegan dinner one Wednesday per month* And some nice cultural events. You pay what you want, but please pay anyway. === Other second-hand shops === The Oxfam Solidarity program provides several shops in the city centre. Have a look at the web site for more informations. === Sleeping === There is an hostel in the Outremeuse district, l'Auberge Georges Simenon. You can easily fine some Couchsurfing hosts. Just have a look on the website, there are plenty of them. === Reading === You can find cheap second-hand books in the local Oxfam Bookstore, and provides books in English, Dutch, German and Spanish. The public library, les Chiroux, is available for free as long as you don't borrow any book. This library contains books in English, Dutch, German, Italian, and Spanish. === Eating === A cheap supermarket, Colruyt, can be found on the Boulevard de la Constitution. Although most shops are closed on Sunday, the local market takes place on the Quai de la Batte, all along the river. There you can find everything you may need. A good place for dumpster diving as well. Some supermarkets are still open, but they might not be the cheapest ones... === Internet access === While the station Liège-Guillemins has free Wi-Fi access, the pub Le Pot au Lait provides a free access to a computer for the customers (but nobody will ask you to order something before using it). It might also be a good place to remember whenever you're looking for free toilets. === Going out === In the district called "Le Carré", there are plenty of pubs open until the late morning. The entrance is usually free. But if you're looking for something more alternative, you should have a look at the entrance of the association called "Aquilone", Boulevard de Saucy. There are a lot of flyers and posters to advertise the upcoming events of the underground scene of the city. Démosphère is an alternative cultural agenda that gives info about all kind of stuff happening in all the different alternative places in Liege and around (lectures, concerts, workshops, theatre, parties, etc.) === Public transports === You can go to the regional bus company website, which provides you the schedule for each bus all around the country.
Blackriding is quite difficult. Each passenger is supposed to show his ticket to the driver when going on board, and regular routine controls are conducted. Although, the bus drivers are often in a hurry, and won't always actually look at your ticket if you're showing it by yourself. This is especially true during the rush hours.A good compromise is the one day ticket, which cost eur 3.00 and allows you to use all the buses in the urban area (delimitations are shown on bus stops panels). The company's little stores near the main bus stops (Saint Lambert, Gare Léopold, Pont d'Avroy) as well as the offices (i.e. in the main train station)== Trashwiki & Nomadwiki ==
The main train station is nomad:Liège-Guillemins (busses #1, #4, and many others). The province is well served by the SNCB/NMBSLiège, but recent budget cuts may change this situation. Ticket controls are not systematics on regional lines, but keep in mind that the fine may be up to eur 150.
