the The city is very small and can easily be walked. Buses through the city are free, but only come once an hour. Buses to the surrounding country side are quite expensive, as are all public transports in Iceland.
Go to the southern part of the city till you'll reach the bridge that cross the fjord, there will be also a petrol station with plenty of traffic.
[[User:Fedecicco|Fede]] didn't have either the time to drop down his backpack and start thumbing decently that (as many other times in Iceland) the first car pulled over while he was still walking.
== Sleep ==Akureyri couchsurfing community it's pretty small but active and full Go to the southern part of very nice people that stop you in the streets and invite you home while city till you busk or simply walk around.. Though if you can't find any host, ll reach the local university (northern part of bridge that cross the cityfjord, upon a hill) it's a very good spot for hitchhikers in need of help, calm and relax. Plenty of wood around to easily wildcamp it can there will be used also as a free internet access spot (if you don't have devices there are freecomputers!) and toilets (not showers though..) that are wide and clean enough to sleep in if the wheather outside is not convenientpetrol station with plenty of traffic.

If you are carrying a lot, you can also take the free bus line number 1 to Miðsíða. This is the farthest out of Akureyri and the closest to the ring road you get by bus.
There you can stand right after the roundabout in direction Reykjavík.
The roundabout in Holtahverfi (just next to the Bónus supermarket) is also quite a decent spot, although you will get a fair amount of local traffic as well.
