North
Your best chances to hitch towards North is to find a motorway ramp in Skönsberg (zoom in on the map to the right).
South
For going south on the E4 you can stand next to the road behind the central station. Cars can stop on the hard shoulder. A far better place is in Njurunda ("Njurundabommen") but it is located 17 km outside the city center.
