Tikhvin (Russian: Тихвин) is a city in the east of Leningrad Oblast, Russia. It is an important industrial and cultural center and a transportation hub. The city has a population of about 58,253 (2015). The railway Saint Petersburg - Vologda, the motorway A114 Novaya Ladoga - Vologda, and the motorway R36 Lodeynoye Pole - Chudovo all pass through the city.

Hitchhiking in
Tikhvin can be entered from any direction. There are three main entrances from the A114:
- Western (from Saint Petersburg) – about 7 km from the city center;
- Central (roundabout with a plane monument) at the junction with R36 – about 3 km to the city center;
- Eastern (from Vologda) – about 2.5 km to the new part of the city, with approximately 2 km more to the center.
There is significant traffic from both Saint Petersburg and Vologda. There is also a lot of local traffic towards Boksitogorsk and Pikalevo.
Hitchhiking out
West towards Saint Petersburg on A114
- Bus 154 goes to Tsvelevo. Recommended hitchhiking spots are on the highway.
East towards Vologda on A114
- Bus 11 from the railway station to "GSK-8". Return to the highway and hitchhike near the cannon.
North towards Lodeynoye Pole on R36
- The roundabout with the MiG monument. Take any bus along Sovetskaya Street.
West towards Chudovo on R36
- Bus 15 to the final stop "Railway crossing". Bus 16 does not go all the way; it stops about 1.5 km before the crossing.
