'''Hitchwiki, a free collaborative guide written by and for hitchhikers, reached 1000 articles in English on 16 September 2008. The project started in 2005 and has been growing constantly. Now, more than 400 hitchhikers from all over the world collaboratively contributed to information for hitchhikers in 1500 pages in 7 different languages.'''
Hitchwiki is an online hitchhikers sharing-point with information about good hitchhiking spots in numerous cities, hitchhiking culture in different countries, general know-how about what to pack, what to eat and how to stay safe. There are hundreds of pages about how to leave cities, often including maps. On Hitchwiki you can also find profiles of hitchhikers, blogs, forums, photos, videos and hitchhiking stories. It is available in English, Russian, SpanishFrench, Finnish, German, French Portuguese, Russian and PortugueseSpanish.
The wiki principle of cooperatively sharing knowledge, that turned Wikipedia in such a big success, also turned out to be a great way for creating a knowledge base for hitchhikers, to share their knowledge on hitchhiking and how to let people share unused space in cars.
