The milestone of 1000 articles exemplifies the comeback of the hitchhiking culture. Each month thousands of people hitchhike all over the world; in many countries it is still a common way of getting around. It is part of a vibrant culture and a preferred way of traveling for many travelers. In August a hitchhikers gathering in Paris drew together over 150 hitchhikers, an event that was partly coordinated through Hitchwiki.
