pickups were mostly by truck drivers, 60%. Cars 35% and bikes/busses 5%. average waiting time 45 minutes. Got bought meals a few times. camping was easy outside of towns or in the mountains, just make sure you have barrier between you and dogs (tent). Never got invited to drivers house.
Here again in dec 2024 for 9 days, entering from Arica Chile to Lima airport. No way near as many maddogs as last time(though only there for 1/4 of the time and covered only 1/10 of the area i covered in 2017), most were chilled or just barked a bit. either they culled the mad ones or i smelt/looked less deserving of a dog attack. one crazy thing i did witness 100km south of lima, was a man walking down the highway hard shoulder naked🧐
