Hitchhiking out

North towards Kandıra, Kerpe, Kefken, Cebeci

To go towards Kerpe, Kefken, Cebeci, Kumcağız, or Kandıra, you need to get onto the Kandıra road. This road connects with the new Gölcük road coming from Gölcük. The end of the coastal road joins this road. At the junction at the end of this road, there is a lay-by for vehicles. While not the best position, the presence of a lay-by where vehicles can stop makes hitchhiking possible. Further along this road, there is another lay-by at the junction with the Istanbul-Ankara motorway and another one at the next traffic lights, both of which are favorable hitchhiking points for that direction.

East towards Istanbul, Gebze

There are two main options for going to Istanbul: D100 highway and the Toll Motorway. Usually, the toll road is more advantageous for reaching Istanbul. For the motorway, there are two main alternatives: the motorway junction near the main bus terminal (Otogar) and the Kuruçeşme toll booths. To reach the Kuruçeşme toll booths, you can catch any car going in the direction of Derince. At the main bus terminal’s Izmit (Kandıra) motorway exit, vehicles go both towards Ankara and Istanbul, so holding a sign with your destination is more effective. At the Kuruçeşme toll booths, there is a location just before the barriers where Efetur buses depart, and there is also a kiosk; you can easily hitchhike from the roadside there.

West towards Sakarya, Bolu, Ankara

The Izmit (Kandıra) toll booths at the Otogar junction are the most convenient spot for this route. On the D100, you can try hitchhiking near the Symbol AVM shopping center; however, as there are other districts such as Kartepe and Arslanbey along the D100, it is harder to find vehicles going longer distances.

South West towards Yalova, Bursa

The coastal road and the new Gölcük road are the main roads going in this direction. The spot where these two roads meet is suitable for hitchhiking. In addition, at the entrance to a café located at the turn-off from the coastal road towards Gölcük, you can hitchhike vehicles heading that way.
