You can walk to this hitchhiking point from the city centre. From the centre follow the sign and walk down the main street, Knyaz Boris. Walk along the street until you reach a bridge. Once you pass the bridge walk a little bit further until you find yourself at the Shell petrol station. A further 100 metres from the petrol station there is quite a good spot for stopping with decent traffic.  You can reach the petrol station also by bus number 8,9,109 from the center (near main church), because it's quite far FAR away to walk with heavy bag and the ticket is only 1 lv (0.5 euro) (you can buy it in the bus).

If coming into the city, best just to explain that you need to hitch west towards Sofia and ask your ride to drop you off at a road towards it as you could be doing a lot of walking otherwise. Hitching to Varna is simple and you should be able to find someone willing to give you a ride to the west side of the city.
'''Option 2'''A2 highway This is actually the spot all local hitchhikers use, it's kind of inside the city but it works perfectly fine. Take bus 409 to bus stop "Elprom" (there is Dechatlon shop, you can ask the conductor), bus ticket costs 1 Lev (0.50 euros), get off after you pass all the malls, there's an EKO petrol station on the right of the bus stop. Just walk a few meters up after the left turn, and hitchhike right from there (there should be a Citroen dealership near you). It is easier to get there, there's shade, civilization and cars go slower because of the cameras.  From here you can also walk 1 km to Lukoil B024 on the A2 / E70, a great spot, where you can both hitch by the highway and ask the drivers who stop. == Trashwiki & Nomadwiki ==

*Aug 2019: Went to option 1 first. Spot was kinda shady; cars are going way too fast and not enough space for drivers to stop. Went back to option 2, which is much easier to reach anyway. Still had to wait 2.5 hours to get a ride to Veliko Tarnovo.
