About the mitgefahren section, mitgefahren is a carsharing website so of course you pay your driver for the service... I must say I do not understand the description made (??)Maplefanta 19:53, 6 November 2007 (CET)
: Yeah, you're right. I hardly understood it and found it useless. I usually hitchhike because I don't want to use mitfahrgelegenheit. --MrTweek<small>site, wikitalk</small> 20:44, 6 November 2007 (CET)
:: A description of the Mitfahrzentrale website could still exist as it is decent information and quite a possible alternative, but it should simply be described for what it is and its system basically explained instead of doing an appreciation of it. I can try to sketch it out... the previous explanation on the wiki was not telling anything about it at all Maplefanta 20:57, 6 November 2007 (CET)
: I agreee --MrTweek 13:03, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
:: I disagree. Germany should be good. Yes, hitching on AB-raststaettes is usually fast, it's possible to cross the entire country in 6-10 hours, but in the meanwhile I've got plenty of experiences (Cologne-Nijmegen) where it has taken more time than Amsterdam-Berlin on plenty of occasions... In Bavaria the same. Hitchability shouldn't only be a tool to measure thru-hitching between popular destinations on major, well-frequented motorways, but a general idea how much hassle you're about to experience to get from point A to point B within that country. clint.hotvedt 11:55, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
::: I agree that hitching in Germany is not always perfect, but in which case can we mark a country to be very good, then? It should be possible to mark something as very good, otherwise the category is obsolete. And as far as I can say, Germany is among the best hitching countries. --Kb 16:26, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Proposal: link to maps
Hello, I propose to link the maps section to the article Maps#Germany and update the list there. It is easier to maintain one list instead of two. Does anybody mind? Regards --Kriechstrom 10:42, 27 January 2012 (CET)
: No, sounds good. We are not very organized here, so feel free to clean up anything that looks not so logical ;) --MrTweek 16:46, 28 January 2012 (CET)

Discussion about restructure
Hello, I found the Germany article to become a bit cluttered because many informations concerning one topic were added at different places. Thus I restructured it a bit in the hope that the overview is better now. I also added some more signs to make the first time hitchhiking in Germany easier. Hope it is fine for all. Please tell me here if I missed something. Thanks, best regards --Kriechstrom 12:57, 1 February 2012 (CET)

Missing info
Did I miss something? --Kriechstrom 12:57, 1 February 2012 (CET)

The word autobahn
I tried to unify the highway/motorway differences but soon figured out that it's not so easy since I would like people speaking BE and AE to understand it. I found some discussions in a German dictionary community about this and as native speakers there suggested that the word autobahn has indeed been found in British and American English dictionaries I introduced the word here once in the beginning and used it afterwards. Does anybody mind? --Kriechstrom 12:57, 1 February 2012 (CET)

Proposals for some future changes
Some other stuff I'd like to change:
* I found out that for distances above 200 km in Germany my average speed (door to door) almost always is 60 km/h to 70 km/h. This helps planning a lot. Can someone verify?
: Seems realistic to me. My rule of thumb was: 50 km/h is bad day, 100 km/h is very good. On almost all of my trips I am between that. Then again, Prino claims an average of about 114 km/h. --MrTweek 14:18, 1 February 2012 (CET)
* I agree that the service station restaurants are expensive but I do not agree that the food quality is low. It is average sometimes when it's just pre-fabricated food. But low food quality for me means bad hygiene or really bad taste and that's not the case.
: agreed. Also, often there's a McDonalds or BurgerKing and they obviously have the same prices and quality as everywhere. --MrTweek 14:18, 1 February 2012 (CET)
* When googling German rest areas (not service stations) I found some services promoting errrr... opportunities to meet people with certain interests there. I'm sure it's nothing the average hitchhiker is looking for. As I rarely get dropped off at rest areas I have no clue about this. Has anybody had troubles with this? Should we add it to the rest area infos?
: I heard of this but never encountered anything like that (except for some prostitutes). I think there are a few certain rest areas that are used for other purposes. Anyway, I think these people probably hide in the bushes, so this shouldn't pose an issue for anyone. We can still mention it, of course. --MrTweek 14:18, 1 February 2012 (CET)
* I plan to add some information about communication (like free wifi etc.) and carpooling (might help to get on the highway cheaper than with public transportation). Any further ideas?
: An important info, that we sometimes already have is whether there is a bridge or tunnel to cross to the other side. Also, it might sometimes help to know if/how one can enter/leave the service area on foot (villages, bus stops nearby, etc).

Carpooling
I propose removing the "carpooling" section. Ridesharing isn't hitchhiking, and rideshare sections tend to be spam magnets. CRCulver (talk) 16:35, 6 June 2013 (CEST)

:I'm not 100% sure about removing but I copied the section to http://cheaptravel.wiki.yt/en/Germany, so I'm not against removing it here :) guaka (talk) 18:44, 6 June 2013 (CEST)

:What about moving all carpool stuff there and just leaving notes here if carpooling is popular enough that it makes sense to ask if the ride's free before getting in the car? guaka (talk) 18:48, 6 June 2013 (CEST)

::Nice to see this talk, I was just about to mention the same. Kick the carpooling stuff out, it has nothing to do with autostop. --Platschi (talk) 02:53, 7 June 2013 (CEST)
