Ok, so I don't know about most of the other border crossings, but on Pasa Jama I do have a different opinion.
Just crossed it a few days ago, no filling out of documents or anything required, I got my passport stamped without questions, though I do have to admit that the first official wanted me to present someone who will take me over the border. The second one I shoved my passport in the face didn't, so don't worry, Paso Jama is manageable, though it might take some time finding someone to take you, for most of the cars crossing seem to be families, ergo cars tend to be full.
