Oliver has hitched many times in the Framlingham area, most often between Framlingham and Wickham Market Station (misleadingly, in the village of Campsea Ashe, about 2 miles from the town) as well as Framlingham and Stowmarket. It takes him no more than 20 minutes to find a ride in either direction, though a lot of traffic is local so it's a lot better to go to one end of Framlingham or the other. Hitching east towards the A12 is slightly easier, as there are fewer side roads that way so more people going the same way as you. Also, on that side of Framlingham there is a petrol station on the main road, where one can wait and ask people for lifts.

Suffolk is a county in the east of England, bordered by Cambridgeshire to the west, Norfolk to the north, and Essex to the south. Mostly rural and full of small towns and villages, its main large towns are Ipswich (the county town), Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft. Other towns include Woodbridge, Stowmarket, Sudbury and Felixstowe. The A12, the main road from London to Great Yarmouth (in Norfolk), runs through the east of the county, passing by Ipswich, Woodbridge, Saxmundham and Lowestoft. The A14 runs from Felixstowe to the junction of the M1 and M6, passing by Ipswich, Stowmarket, Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket. The A140 runs from the A14 near Needham Market to the A149 south of Cromer, Norfolk. Between the A14 and Diss, Norfolk, it passes through many small villages. After Diss, the only significant place it passes is Norwich (the county town of Norfolk) before Cromer.

A12

Heading North from the Wickham Market roundabout, there is a layby on the sliproad. Very well placed to hitch. After this, the A12 becomes a single carriageway with cars still travelling very fast, but with no room to slow or stop. There's a petrol station in Stratford St Andrews on the A12 which may be useful to stop at to find another ride, if your ride isn't going much further.
