'''Strasbourg''' is one of a major city in [[France]] situated next to the bigger cities of [[FranceGerman]]border. It is the siege official seat of the European Parliament, and pretty ''bourgeois''.

In theory it seems doable to hitchhike directly from the centercentre, as there is the entrance to several highwaysmotorways. However, the people of the city are not very hitchhikehitchhiker-friendly, so it is better to directly go to a petrol station on the highwaymotorway.

It should be noted that there is barely any traffic around and out of the city on Sunday mornings. This may be the case with other parts of France.  ==Getting around==

Public transport is very cheap for a western European city. A 24 hour pass is only 3,50 costs EUR4.30, for 4,80 EUR 6.40 you get a 24 hour pass for 3 persons(August 2015). See [https://www.cts-strasbourg.eu/en/online-store/fares/tickets/ fares]. == Hitchhiking out ===== Going east ([[Germany]]) {{Autobahn|5}} ===The German town of [[Kehl]] (just over the border to the East) is a good place to pick up traffic to the A5 (all directions), especially from the petrol station at the entrance to the B28 ([http://hitchwiki.org/maps/?place=7333]).  Walking (from Strasbourg centre) to Kehl takes about 50 minutes if you go the shortest route (check Google maps!). Strasbourg tram reaches Kehl center since 2018, the price is the same as within Strasbourg, 2€

===Going east North (Germany A5[[Metz]], [[Saarbrücken]])===You can take the regional train going to {{Afr|4}} and South ([[KehlMulhouse]] which is already in , [[GermanySwitzerland]] ) {{Afr|35}} ===Take the tram (red line A) to Parc Malraux and then the bus (line 13) direction Lingolsheim gare and get out at Ostwald Eglise. From the bus stop walk up to the entrance of the church (around 6 minutes "Église" is French for 2-3 euro"church")nearby. Facing the entrance just walk down Rue de l'Église parallel left to the church. In Kehl Keep on walking until youreach Rue d've got a big road going directly Illkirch which leads to the bridge over the motorway A5 - and everyone who's coming from (see [[France]https://goo.gl/maps/Me0pt directions] ). If you want to go '''south''', don't cross the bridge: There is using this roada steep path down to the petrol station. Also, Heading '''south''' you might want to go from Stasbourg to Kehl, you can use avoid the bus (line #21 ; one bus every 30 min). It's a bit longer but quite cheaper (1,30 euro instead of 3,50 for train) and it stops in several places from "Ancienne Douannesteep path" which leads to the east side petrol station. Facing the entrance of the city (useful if church you are in can also walk to the left, down Rue de Lorraine. At the eastern part end of Rue de Lorraine turn right and follow the street until you reach the cityA35 motorway (see [https://goo.gl/maps/xcuvr directions]). There is a direct entrance to the service station for traffic going '''south''' towards Mulhouse and Switzerland.

Take the bus line 62 (at the end of the A tram (red line: Graffenstaden) to Illkirch Lixenbuhl and then the bus (line 2) to Ostwald Eglisestop at Lipsheim Gare. From the bus stopThere you can walk up north for 3/5 minutes, with your back to on the churchD1083, turn right and walk down toward a gas station! A small road runs along its edge === Going North ([[Metz]], [[Saarbrücken]], [[Paris]]) ===Take a regional train direction ''Brumath/Mommenheim'' and leads make sure it stops at ''Stephansfeld''. From there you can walk within 15 min to the first petrol station ''Air de Service Brumath'' on the A35 motorwayA4 and start hitchhiking straight at the petrol station. This The trainticket from Strasbourg to Stephansfeld costs EUR 3.90 (2016). You may have to jump a fence to enter the actual petrol station, but it is for traffic going SOUTH towards Mulhouse, Switzerland, etcnot too tall and in June 2016 there was a convenient hole in it.

Across Alternatively, just walk (10 minutes from this is the second petrol station for centre) to Place de Haguenau, and walk to the entrance of the NORTH A4 (Metz, Saarbrucken, etcthere is a cycle path that leads right next to it if you don't like contending with the cars). You can access this There is a lot of space for people to stop and it is the best way to head north from a muddy path path beside the bridgecentre. Mind you, do NOT hitchhike at the Place de Haguenau as there is absolutely no shoulder to pull over. === Going west ===

# Join the N4: take the "bus interurbain" [http://www.cts-strasbourg.fr/Portals/0/PDF/horaires/interurbains/hiver/205.pdf #205],[http://www.cts-strasbourg.fr/Portals/0/PDF/horaires/interurbains/hiver/206.pdf #206 or #207] from "Ancienne synagogue-Les Halles" or "Gare Centrale" to Ittenheim (eur 1,.80 euros). From Ittenheim's bus stop, walk till the entry of the village (3 minutes), and you're on the best spot of the N4 to leave Strasbourg. This road has the advantage to be free of fees so many cool people use it. I recommend it to go to Metz and Nancy cause you don't loose a lot of time compared to motorways and you have many more chances to get a lift.
