===Going north===
Go south, taking a tram southwards (probably A), right to the end of the line. From there you walk west for a while, and then you can find the petrol station on the side to go north.
The above tip takes you to the petrol station opposite the one mentioned for "Going south". If you want to start hitchhiking north of the city, you can take a train to Brumath (3,40€) or Stephansfeld (a little bit closer but less frequent) and than walk to the petrol station on the motorway.
