From Avenida Mexico in the center of the city, take bus 22.28 which heads up to the highway called Autopista Duarte. It takes from the center aproximately 1.5 hours to get to the point where you can hitchhike. Ask the driver to leave you at the peaje (tollbooth). As of February 2014, the ticket costs RD$40, less than US$1. From the peaje it is very easy to catch the ride. You may use a sign or simply shout the direction you want to go in,as many people drive with opened windows.
